While everyone knows that the magic lives in the hearts of all animals, from the lowly ant to the majestic whale. Human babies are born with the magic, but sadly, they lose all memory of it as they learn the human ways.
This is the story of one such knowledgeable creature, a coyote by the name of Koraverd. Koraverd lived deep in the forest, in solitude as coyotes often do. After many winters of this life, he became very lonely and longed for a companion. He decided to leave his quiet, protective forest in search of some relief from his sadness.
After several days of wandering, he came to a clearing with a beautiful, lush garden in it.
Standing in the garden was a human. She was the loveliest creature that Koraverd could ever have imagined. He crouched in the cool shadows, watching her. Many weeks passed while he sat mesmerized by her. He fell deeply in love with her.
At last, he could take it no more and returned to his lovely forest. He did not return to hide but to search for a forest fairy. Koraverd knew only they could help him. He searched near a stream where he had seen them dancing before. It wasn’t long before he had found one and told them of his love. The forest fairy agreed to help Koraverd and turn him into a human so that he could be forever with his true love.
However, as these things often do, there was one condition. Whenever he feels the wildness returning to his blood and the hair returning to his face, he must return to the forest and howl to the humans to help them try to remember the magic that they were born with. Sometimes, they briefly remember and howl back to him.
